Karate master, gov’t officials aid concert for dialysis patients

BONTOC, Mountain Province -- A concert for a  cause  drew the support of   Germany –based karate master of the shotokan style Julian Pursen Chees of Shohin-Kinderhilfe Foundation and native of Maligcong Bontoc,  government officials  and personnel including organizations here April 6 on occasion of the  46th Mountain Province Foundation Day and 9th cultural and Lang-ay festival from April 1-8.

The  concert  at the  Multipurpose Building raised more than P100,000 from  donations  of Chees, government officials,  personnel, organizations and individuals added to gate tickets.

Doctors, nurses and staff headed by provincial health Officer Dr NenitaLizardo from the Bontoc General Hospital and Luis Hora Memorial Hospital through administrator Lorenzo Dalang helped in the concert of which the fund shall be given to four identified beneficiaries.

Other benevolent provincial  line government  agencies who contributed  to the cause included  staff of  the Philippine National Police headed by Supt William Visteon,  National Irrigation Authority led by District Engr Leonardo Lamangen,  Department of Public  Works and Highways through District Assistant Engineer Charles Sokoken, Department of  Education led by Division School Supt Sally Ullalim,Mountain Province State Polytechnique State  College headed by newly installed president Eufemia Lamen, Department  of Trade and Industry  led by  officer  in charge Juliet Lucas,  Philhealth headed by provincial director Jose Safawil and  the 54th IB of the Philippine Army headed by  Col Francisco Millare through information officer  Roel Tabliago  including the Social Welfare and Development office led by Rose Belagan.

Noted Mountain Province  musician Bryan Aliping  rendered his songs during the concert including Bontoc- based musicians  cafeteria manager  Arnold Palomo and  photojournalist Ferdz  Castaneda; businesswoman Alicia Padalla of Sabangan and Tadian,  lawyer  and mayor Anthony Wooden of  Tadian, band vocalist Rizelle Soliba of Sagada-Bauko and elementary student Gwaine Bosaing.

Musicians  Albert Basilan of Paracelis and Jessa Valdez of Barlig were not able to attend due to unforeseen circumstances.  

MPSPC student bands-Khiyag and Band Aid-   rendered opening songs. All musicians ended the concert with the song Masdan mo ang Kapaligiran.

The activity was sponsored by the Supreme Student Council of MPSPC in coordination with the student governor’s league and legislative officers and advisers Danevert Sokoken and Terence Fangasan,   with the support of Mountain Province Governor Leonard Mayaen.

Full support of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Mountain Province headed by Vice Gov. Bonifacio Lacwasan was noted with board members Randolph Awisan, Constito Masweng, Nicanor Bacwaden, Salvador Dalang, Carmelita Masidong, Francis Balisong, Alfonso Kiatong, Johnny Lausan, Raul Lapon, CarinoTamang and Lacwasan having bought sponsor tickets.  Sponsor tickets were priced at P500, P200 and P100 and general admission fee at P30.

The full support of the Sangguniang  Bayan of Bauko led by  vice mayor  Rodolfo Patnaan with  councilors  Juan Malinias,  Mario Gaoken, Bartolome Badecao,  Romeo Pagedped, Andres Bantasan, Ricky Samidan , Carl Tawagen, Roel Lacwasan and Arcadio Taganas, and  the Bauko LGU staff was noted. One of the concert beneficiary patients is Benedict Mek-eng, a vegetable farmer of Monamon Sur, Bauko.

Paracelis vice Mayor Ketty Rafael and District 1 board member Lausan of Paracelis rallied the support of their town mates in the cause of the concert.

Concert beneficiary Jacel Danggalan is from Poblacion Paracelis.  The other patient is dialysis patient 32 year old Dhimar Daguio, an engineering graduate of MPSPC from Balaoa, Tadian; and Lea Talangnan from Talubin, Bontoc. 

Individuals who also sponsored  the activity  included engineers Jupiter Dominguez, Roy Manao, Francis Tauli, and Richard Yodong;  lawyers NoeMalinias, Wilson Kalangeg,  Sergio Milan, and  Sonny Angara through mother-in-law Baboo Mondonedo; and  retired Col. Pio Kidpo, private contractor  Arnel Piel, businessmen Jet and  Harry Dominguez, government personnel  Eva Falag-ey  and  Bontoc mayor Pascual Sacgaca.

Sponsor organizations included Episcopal Churchwomen led by Bontoc chapter president Mary Tudlong, Collective Initiatives  Monitoring and  Building  Mountain Province  chaired by  Dr  Jacqueline Dominguez, Mountain Province Electric Cooperative  headed by general manager Jude Domoguen, and schools  Mountain Province General  Comprehensive High School headed by  principal Atkinson Tudlong,  Talubin National  High School headed by principal Belinda Tinacba, St Vincent’s High School headed by principal Julian Chumacog and Cathedral of All Saints  through rector LucreciaTurtem  and deacon ElvieTolingan.

Staff of the Provincial LGU security department headed by Robert Toctocan aided the security support of Col AnacletoTangilag and the ROTC of MPSPC during said concert, along with promotional support of Radio ng Bayan, Radio Natin and local and regional papers.

Community and family members of concert beneficiaries helped out in selling tickets namely Letty Talangnan, Genevieve Mek-eng, Edna Loya and the parents of Dhimar Daguio.

Congressman Maximo Dalog encouraged patients to approach his office for support in dialysis shots at the Baguio Medical Center and National Kidney Center.

CLIMB-MP  chairman  Dr Jacqueline Dominguez also said  CLIMB  facilitates  patients to  benefits rendered by  the Philippine Charity  Sweepstakes Officer (PCSO)  for dialysis  treatment assistance.

Meantime, dialysis treatment services shall soon be available at the Bontoc General Hospital with the completion of training of personnel especially to do dialysis treatment procedures.
